Symptoms of Avascular Necrosis

Symptoms of Avascular necrosis vary according to the involved bone. But the worst part is- there are no early signs and symptoms of this disease. Symptoms become visible after disease progresses in advance condition.

You may feel pain when you press, strain or use the affected bone. With time this pain complicates. The biggest confusion in case of AVN is, it takes time for diagnosis. And wrong diagnosis can lead you to more complicated stages.

Common Symptoms of Avascular Necrosis

These are common symptoms of the AVN, which occur everywhere in the effected bones or joints-

  • Pain while movement of joint.
  • Inability in using affected part
  • Excessive pain in night hours (specially near midnight).
  • Restricted Movements

Besides these symptoms, there are specific symptoms of Avascular Necrosis according to involvement of the bone.

Symptoms of AVN of Hip Joint

This is most common type of Avascular necrosis among patients. AVN of hip joint develops in stages. And all the symptoms keep on complicating with the growing grade. Here is the list-

  • Pain in Hip Joint
    • Occurrence of Pain on side of buttocks
    • Pain in the groin region
    • The pain radiates in thigh
    • Pain can be felt on side of knee joint
    • Pain becomes severe while sleeping
  • Limping while walking
  • Inability to put pressure on the hip joint
  • Inability in standing up after prolonged sitting

Symptoms of Avascular Necrosis of Shoulder Joint

The shoulder joint involvement of the Avascular necrosis means- death of bone cells in shoulder joint. The symptoms of avn of humerus head are-

  • Pain in Shoulder Joint
  • Gradually pain becomes complicated
  • Restricted Mobility
  • Crepitus (Click sounds while movement of shoulder)
  • Weakness of the Joint

Symptoms of AVN of Knee Joint

In this condition, lower end of femur , which makes knee joint is affected mostly. And symptoms are like-

  • Pain in the knee joint
  • Pain increases while walking and movement
  • Restriction of movement in knee joint
  • Knee doesn’t bear body weight.

These are some of the basic symptoms of the AVN of knee joint. But in many cases of AVN of hip joint, pain travels to the knee joint too. Therefore it is important to define the exact cause behind the pain in knee joint.
